Essentials
Between a Walk and a Hard Place (HPW) is a fundraising walk for local charities helping people backed into hard places - people who are displaced, vulnerable or exploited.
- Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026
- Locations: Hosted by local charity partners in cities across the USA
- Distance: each location will host a 5km and 2km you can also walk farther, harder distances - 25km and 50km.
- Who: Everyone is welcome - come as you are.
- Cost: Free to register but fundraising is how your walk will make an impact.
What You Are Signing Up For
As a participant, you will:
- Register online for your local event
- Create a personal fundraising page.
- Fundraise for your local HPW charity
- Send emails to friends and family
- Gather in-person on event day, Sept 26
- Walk your chosen distance
Walk Your Way
You decide how far you’ll go.
- The Way – 5km - walk 5km with everyone on event day. (A 2km option is also available.)
- The Hard Way – 25km - walk 20km on your own in the days leading up to the event, then complete your final 5km with everyone on event day.
- The Harder Way – 50km - walk 45km on your own in the days leading up to the event, then complete your final 5km together on event day.
- Your Way Can’t join in person? Choose your distance, your date, and your pace. Walk and fundraise on your own anytime in September.
Our Thank You For Fundraising
- Ba-Ba-Bandanas!: We know you are doing this because you care but we especially want to say thank you for caring enough to fundraise. Participants who raise $100 or more receive a special Hard Place Walk bandana with our logo and annual colour choice — a visible symbol of your participation and commitment.
- Beautiful Buttons! all walkers receive a special distance button recognizing how far you walked - whether The Way, The Hard Way, or The Harder Way.
